How to Become a Mentee

Why should you be an Africode Mentee?

  • You get connected to African Industry experts - People that have been where you currently are. 
  • You get guidance on what classes to take and how to position yourself to excel both in school and afterwards.
  • It is an opportunity to Network. You would have the opportunity to network with our community of both mentors and mentees, who work in different companies and go to school in different locations.

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Be in college.
  • Be interested in computer science or adjacent fields
  • Be able to devote an hour per month to be mentored. Mentor -mentee meetings can be held over phone or video call via Skype/Hangouts/FaceTime. 
  • Be willing to receive advice and guidance in order to help you build a great foundation to start your career in Tech.

Why should you be an Africode Mentor? 

  • It is one way for you to give back, especially to young Africans who were once in your shoes.
  • It is a learning opportunity - this is an opportunity for you to stay connected to students in college and keep up to date with the latest technologies being taught in school these days.  
  • It is an opportunity to Network. You would have the opportunity to network with our community of both mentors and mentees, who work in different companies and go to school in different locations.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Work in the Tech industry (mentors don’t necessarily have to code).
  • Be able to devote an hour per month to mentor a student. Mentor - mentee meetings can be held over phone or video call via Skype/Hangouts/FaceTime.
  • Be ready to serve as a role model and assist mentees achieve his/her career goals.
  • Be willing to meet with your mentee every month, during the school year (August - May, approximately 10 meetings in a year).
